Understanding the purpose of designation and the need for sensitive management is crucial to the delivery of this Management Plan. The AONB Partnership, largely through the AONB Unit, plays a key role in raising awareness and providing information that encourages participation. Working with local communities in protection, enhancement and in decision-making, aids the preservation and awareness of the AONB’s special qualities.

The AONB Sustainable Development Fund. This fund continues to be an excellent source of funding available to local communities, organisations and businesses to develop projects which conserve and enhance the Mendip Hills AONB.
International Junior Ranger Camp 2010. The Mendip Hills AONB has been running a Young Rangers programme since 2005 based on the Europarc (network of European protected landscapes) model. In July 2010 the Mendip Hills AONB will host the 9th Junior Ranger International Camp in partnership with Goblin Combe Environment Centre and Fernhill Farm.
